Hourglasses are intended for decoration, or for setting the time for some act or speech of the speaker.

The stand is made of real brass. The surface treatment - polishing - is provided with a layer of lacquer for durability. The glass vessel is hand-blown from cooking glass over a kahan. The sanding medium is small glass balls (ballotina).
